How You’ll Make an Impact
We are seeking qualified, experienced Cultural Resource Monitors for a high-profile transportation construction project in California and Nevada.

A Cultural Resource Monitor must possess sufficient understanding of cultural resource materials (historic and prehistoric) to enable identification during construction, and sufficient experience working alongside construction crews, heavy machinery, and Tribal partners. Monitors will interact with hand-held mobile device software such as ESRI Field Maps and Survey 123 for daily reporting. Monitors will be required to communicate with construction teams, lead monitors, principal investigators, and Tribal partners each day.

For qualified applicants lodging and per-diem will be provided at the GSA rate. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identification of cultural resources during construction
  • Effective communication with construction personnel and lead monitors to ensure punctuality, on-site safety, and cultural resource protection
  • Production of digital daily log forms that include detailed descriptions of construction activities, communication, and future plans
  • Applicant will be expected to communicate effectively with lead monitors, principal investigators, and Tribal partners to verify understanding of instructions or site-specific information
  • Ability to identify buried resources and document them effectively while working in a team will be necessary
  • Photography, measurement, artifact identification, and recordation of resources will also be required
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology or substantial experience performing similar duties.
  • Have the ability to operate a 4wd vehicle safely
  • Willingness to travel to a project location for several consecutive days
  • Understanding and willingness to safely accommodate difficult weather and other environmental conditions and challenges
  • Previous experience as a cultural resource monitor during construction
  • Ability to operate field equipment, including GPS equipment, cameras, and tablets
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completed an accredited field school certification
  • Previous archaeological survey experience in California, Nevada,  the Great Basin and or the Desert West, and experience recording a variety of site and isolate types in the respective region(s)
  • Knowledge of and experience using ESRI Collector, Field Maps, and Survey 123.
Compensation: $18-34/hourly*
*Final agreed-upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location. Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check prior to beginning employment.

Environment
  • This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
  • This job may also require occasional project site visits, based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles and equipment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This job requires the following:
  • Working on a computer, sitting, or standing for long periods of time in an office or remote office setting.
  • Employees must be capable of bending, squatting, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 35 lbs. unassisted; 50lbs in a team lift (two or more employees).
  • This job requires attending meetings, both in person and virtually as well as speaking on the phone with government agency representatives, members of the public, and others. Speaking, hearing and listening are required.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
