Basic Function:BASIC FUNCTION:
Norco College Computer Science/Computer Information Systems Department is seeking an Assistant Professor, a full-time tenure track faculty member that is equity minded and eager to work with a diverse student population.

This candidate will share Norco College's and the Computer Science/Computer Information Systems Department's commitment to educating its racially, socially, and socioeconomically diverse student population. We currently serve approximately 15,000 students annually, the majority of whom are from racially minoritized populations. Our highly diverse student population includes 58% Latinx, 7% Asian American, 6% African American, and 22% white. Norco College is designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the college has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. Our student diversity also includes military veterans, those who have been in foster care, those who are possibly experiencing homelessness, and those who identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

The successful candidate will join the School of Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, & Game Development (MECSGD), which is dedicated to the use of curriculum through a lens of equity. These efforts include participation of department faculty in campus-wide programs, such as the Completion Initiative, Teaching Men of Color at the Community College, and training on Microaggressions. This department values the use of equity-minded anagogical techniques, while maintaining academic rigor.

The successful candidate will be responsible for lecture and/or laboratory instruction in in all aspects of Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and Game Development courses. The successful candidate will develop and design curriculum, provide tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintain class related records, and assess student coursework. The prospective candidate must be able to teach discrete mathematics and programming languages from basic to advanced levels offered by the college, such as Java, C++, Python, data science, contemporary web / database languages, as well as classes in modern game engines. Knowledge concerning matters of cyber security and networking is preferred. It is expected that the candidate will be able to collaborate and support colleagues within the department regarding college related reports and co-curricular activities. This candidate will also be committed to explore innovative pedagogical practices and to be involved in institutional service, which includes serving on committees, workgroups or as an advisor for an active club.

Master's in computer science or computer engineering

OR

Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering

OR

Bachelor's in engineering AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration

OR

Bachelor's in mathematics AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration

OR

Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND A master's degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems

OR the equivalent

Experience:EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two years of successful experience teaching Computer Science and / or Computer Information Systems at a community college or baccalaureate level institution is desired or equivalent professional experience. A minimum of four years of successful experience in industry working as a Software Engineer or related position is required. Knowledge and experience with modern software design, construction, production, maintenance, deployment, and documentation are expected. Additionally, a terminal degree in Computer Science, or Software Development related field is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
Recent experience working with historically underserved students in the classroom, and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education and the field of physics shape patterns of participation and outcomes; willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support historically underserved students; experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom; experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching; demonstrated knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices. Willingness to develop new course curriculum.

Must demonstrate evidence of a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (E.C. 87360a).
Duties and Responsibilities:The successful candidate will, among other things:
1. Maintaining currency in the Computer Science education field.
2. Maintaining and reporting accurate and complete scholastic records, including attendance records.
3. Assisting in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussion.
4. Developing and filing appropriate syllabi for each course taught, ensuring that each syllabus conforms to required and approved curriculum, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and reflects currency in field.
5. The instructional assignment will include lecture and laboratory classes in the discipline.
6. All faculty will participate in outcomes assessment work and utilize assessment results of student learning outcomes to make improvements in teaching and learning.
7. Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to conducting classes, class preparation, student evaluation, office hours, committee work, curriculum and program development, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, student activities, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
8. Active participation in institutional service activities and completion of annual 'flex credit' is required of all faculty members.
9. Participation in discipline/department decision-making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development, Improvement of Instruction, and other professional matters are also expected of all department faculty.
10. Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
11. Teaching online or evening or weekend classes may be a part of the workload.

2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
