Job Description

NEEDED: CRNA

LOCATION: 1 Medical Center Drive, Clarksburg, WV 26301

ASSIGNMENT: 5/17/2025 – 11/16/2025

SCHEDULE: CRNA shall be available and present in the surgery area during normal surgery hours. Surgery hours will be established, and may be revised, as deemed appropriate for patient care by the Chief of Staff. Currently, normal hours are 7:00am to 3:30pm.

ON-CALL is required during all hours when the clinic is closed, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

  • Shall provide at least four (4) days of evening on-call coverage and at least one (1) weekend of on-call coverage per month.
  • On-call is at the discretion of the Chief of Surgery Service.
  • CRNA must be available at all times for phone consultations with VA residents and CRNAs.
  • Patients must be seen within 60 minutes of the page when medically indicated.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Shall have a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia).
  • Shall be currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support through the American Heart Association.
  • Shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government’s requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
  • Shall provide documents to verify current and ongoing competency, skills, certification and/or licensure related to the provision of care, treatment and/or services performed.
  • Shall provide verifiable evidence of all educational and training
  • Shall provide copies of current CMEs as required
  • Shall be responsible for abiding by the Facility's Medical Staff By-Laws, rules, and regulations that govern medical staff behavior.

JOB DUTIES:

  • CRNA shall cover the range of Anesthesiology services as would be provided in a state-of-the-art health care facility and the standard of care shall be of a quality, meeting or exceeding, currently recognized national standards.
  • Shall be responsible for providing Anesthesiology care, including, but not limited to :
  • Clinic and Surgical Care: CRNA shall provide clinical Anesthesiology services. Contractor’s CRNA shall be present on time for any scheduled clinics/surgeries as documented by physical presence in the clinic or operating room at the scheduled start time.
  • Operative Services: Shall provide comprehensive clinical anesthesiology services to include, but not limited to, patients undergoing cardiac surgery, orthopedic joint replacement, and major vascular, thoracic, neurosurgical, plastic, ENT, urologic, and ophthalmologic surgeries.
  • Shall provide clinical care of patients undergoing electroconvulsive therapy and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, electrophysiology, gastrointestinal and radiological suites, to include MRI.
  • CRNA shall provide primary coverage for all patients in the surgical intensive care, short stay unit, acute and chronic pain management services, diagnostic trans esophageal echocardiography for medical and surgical patients, and emergency airway management.
  • CRNA shall provide consultative services at the patient’s bedside if the patient is not ambulatory and, in the clinic, setting if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic.
  • Unique Competencies the Chief of Surgery Service expects the CRNA shall have:
  • Performing and documenting a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies; selecting, obtaining, ordering, and administering preanesthetic medications and fluids; and obtaining informed consent for anesthesia.
  • Developing and implementing an anesthetic plan.
  • Initiating the anesthetic technique which may include general, regional, local, and IV sedation.
  • Selecting, applying, and inserting appropriate noninvasive and invasive monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of the patient's physical status.
  • Selecting, obtaining, and administering the anesthetics, adjuvant and accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic.
  • Managing a patient's airway and pulmonary status using current practice modalities.
  • Facilitating emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering, and administering medications, fluids, and ventilator support.
  • Discharging the patient from a post-anesthesia care area and providing post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care, as needed.
  • Responding to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and drugs, and using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
  • Implements acute pain management modalities.
  • Perform arterial puncture, arterial cannulization and arterial pressure monitoring devices if indicated.
  • Fiberoptic bronchoscopy.
  • Follow all established medication policies and procedures.
  • Shall provide discharge education and follow up instructions
