What is the Opportunity?

The EHS Manager will be responsible for promoting the health, safety and environmental culture of our USVI Airport Redevelopment Projects in St. Thomas and St. Croix. The Manager will work with the senior management team on these projects to ensure continuous improvement and standards are met on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide site specific safety training, orientation and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
  • Develop and train supervisors and staff on the Health, Safety and Environmental Manual
  • Review project plans and project sites before work commences, identifying safety-related risks.
  • Inspect active project sites to evaluate ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Liaise with external parties such as government inspectors, sub-contractors, and general public.
  • Work with project management teams and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on project sites.
  • Work with senior management to create plans for emergency procedures, various critical risk assessments, and project risk registry.
  • Subcontractor prequalification’s and management: Ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards and project expectations.
  • Investigate incidents to identify causes and to determine corrective/preventive action plans.
  • Represent project at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety matters.
  • Track and monitor safety statistics, performance, and analytics to proactively determine trends and create EHS dashboards to review with the senior management team.
  • Support project specific conventional safety and environmental management plans and procedures including; inspections, audits, observation and coaching, Worker Trades Committee and JHSC
  • Other ad hoc  duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Health, Safety and Environment or related experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience managing health and safety on civil/heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a senior OHS role in the Construction industry, preferably working in a collaborative JV environment.
  • Knowledge of Construction projects with a solid understanding of work place safety legislation and regulations
  • A professional designation such as a CRSP, NCSO is preferred
  • Experience in working on civil infrastructure, specifically airport or building projects is preferred
  • Background in Training and/or Education and or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups.
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, excellent verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent meeting and training facilitation skills
  • Understanding of Workers Compensation, claims management, and return-to-work programs
  • Experience leading or auditing ISO, COR, or equivalent safety management system compliance audits.
  • Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record and the ability to drive to job sites.
