About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Environment Artist - World Builder to join our team on a contract basis. This role involves working alongside the client’s Environment Art and Level teams as an embedded team member, contributing directly to day-to-day production needs. The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver work that meets both creative and technical standards for AAA projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Refine, update, and optimize existing environment kits to support worldbuilding goals and internal milestones.
• Create new modular kits and production-ready assets as required, following established art direction and style guidelines.
• Support the team through Alpha and Beta, taking assets from art sheets through to final in-engine integration.
• Execute worldbuilding tasks including layout, set dressing, scene polish, and environmental storytelling.
• Collaborate with Leads, Level Designers, and other artists to ensure cohesive visual direction and efficient workflows.
• Follow established pipelines, documentation, and best practices outlined in the studio’s internal Wiki and onboarding materials.
• Participate in weekly team calls, Slack discussions, reviews, and cross-disciplinary syncs.
• Work within a proprietary game engine, applying strong understanding of scene management, performance considerations, and optimization techniques.

Minimum Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in environment art for AAA or AA games, with at least one shipped title in a similar capacity.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating worldbuilding, modular kit design, asset creation, and ability to deliver polished in-engine environments.
• Expertise with industry-standard tools:
  Maya, Substance (Painter/Designer), Houdini, ZBrush, Photoshop, SpeedTree.
• Experience working in proprietary or commercial engines (UE5, Unity, or similar), with an understanding of scene assembly, lighting fundamentals, and optimization workflows.
• Ability to interpret and execute established art direction and style guides.
• Highly collaborative and communicative—comfortable working in Slack, Teams, and other remote team environments.
• Proactive, self-directed, and able to operate effectively as part of an embedded team with minimal oversight.
• Strong understanding of next-gen content creation pipelines, performance constraints, dependencies, and environment production best practices.
