Details

The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Event Coordinator Intern. This is a full-time (at-will and FLSA-non-exempt) position. Fringe benefits are not included. Salary is set at $16.00 an hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with hiring, training, and management of Event management student assistants.
  • Assist in management of assigned sports
  • Coordinate pre-planning activities, including communicating with visiting teams, officials, television, other Athletics units, vendors, and external entities.
  • Recruit, schedule and train event personnel and volunteers
  • Develop sport-specific event management, visiting team, and Championship/Tournament manuals.
  • Conduct on-site management activities, including fulfillment of working staff, volunteer, and team needs
  • Assist in the planning and management of Big Ten and NCAA Championship events.
  • Act as a liaison between Athletics units, University service units and organizations, and community businesses to conduct operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in athletic administration, marketing, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to: Utilize basic office supports software (word processing, email, presentation software, and spreadsheets) and operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week which may include evening, weekend, and holiday hours.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
