Job Description

Wesinghouse is looking for a material handler at the Catawba Nuclear Power Station.  This is a long term local hire position and does not pay perdiem or any relocation fees.  In this position a  Material Handler will be technically competent and experienced in the field of material handling, movement and general warehouse operations.  Material Handlers will assist the supply chain and distribution team (as assigned) with distribution/movement of materials, equipment and supplies.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Load, transport and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies (as needed) to support station or plant in the assigned work group within the Protected Area (PA) and Owner Controlled Area (OCA).
• Operate various pieces of material movement equipment such as (but not limited to):
  • Forklifts
  < li> Stand and Reach lifts
• Motorized Pallet Jacks
• Trucks
• Equipment with trailer attachments (up to 52 feet)
• Yard Dog

• Inspect equipment for malfunctions or defective parts, document results and notify supervision of deficiencies.
• Understand verbal and hand signal direction.
• Function as a material movement or equipment operations spotter as needed.
• Secure and/or rig loads safely for material movement.

Education Requirements

• Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
• Equipment operations qualifications ? minimum forklift certification.  Other equipment qualifications (as needed) to be completed within 6 months of position assignment as training is available.
• Basic Rigger qualification
• Successfully complete site specific access training to include (at a minimum:
  • Unescorted Nuclear Access
  • Plant Access Training (PAT)
  • Radiation Worker Training (RWT)
  • Fitness for Duty Training (FFD)

Experience / Job Requirements

• Minimum of two (2) years of material handling and equipment operations experience.  Energy industry or industrial environment experience preferred.
• Maintain a valid state issued motor vehicle driver?s license.
• Basic Rigger qualification ? current qualification with 2 years of experience preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a working knowledge of BHI and client technical manuals and updates.
• Ability to pass BHI and client company specific training as required.
• Basic computer skills and competency.
• Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in a technical environment with client and management,  supervisors, peers, and direct reports.
• Ability to interface with Site organizations to develop successful problem solving strategies and approaches as required.
• Availability to report to work upon "short notice", i.e. less than twenty-four (24) hour notice, as well as perform personnel call-outs for emergent work, as required.
• Availability to work overtime; to include shift work, weekends, and holidays.
• Follow safe work practices.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to meet all of the physical requirements for the technical aspects of the position.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. repetitively (heavy lifting required from time to time).
