Job Description

Position Summary:  

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Mental Health Therapist with a strong background in foster care, adoption, complex trauma, attachment and relational trauma, and evidence-based approaches such as Play Therapy and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®). This role involves providing trauma-informed mental health services to children, youth, and families involved in the foster care and adoption system in the Salt Lake City area. 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy to children and families with histories of trauma, attachment disruptions, and involvement in the child welfare system. 
  • Develop and implement treatment plans using trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches, including TBRI®, Play Therapy, EMDR, and other evidence-based practices like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)or dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) 
  • Collaborate closely with foster parents, biological families, caseworkers, and other multidisciplinary team members to support the mental health and relational needs of clients. 
  • Conduct clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and progress reviews in accordance with agency and licensing requirements. 
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and HIPAA-compliant clinical documentation. 
  • Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and ongoing professional development. 
  • Educate caregivers and stakeholders on trauma, attachment, and therapeutic parenting strategies. 
  • Provide crisis intervention and support as needed. 

Qualifications:  

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, or a closely related field required. Candidate must be eligible for licensure in the state of Utah as an LCSW, CSW, LMFT, ACMHC, or CMHC. 
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain an individual NPI (National Provider Identifier). 
  • Available for biweekly staff meetings, on Wednesdays from 9:30a-10a MST 
  • Specialized knowledge and experience in foster care, adoption, and complex developmental trauma. 
  • Experience working with children and families impacted by child welfare involvement. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Registered Play Therapist (RPT) or working toward certification. 
  • Trained or certified in TBRI® (preferred), or willingness to become trained. 
  • EMDR or other trauma-specific training/certifications. 
  • Background in Play Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, or other trauma-focused modalities. 
  • Familiarity with Utah's child welfare system. 
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
