Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of a Technical Resource Supervisor (Administrator II), the incumbent is responsible for reviewing highly sensitive, complex, and significant audit cases for Corporate taxpayers. The incumbent assists in the development of complex technical Tax Audit practices and procedures in areas where little to no legal precedent exits, where the potential for litigation is high, and where leadership and coordination is required. The incumbent will work well with people, work independently, handle multiple assignments, and adapt to changing priorities.

Working Conditions

This position is eligible for limited remote working based on departmental guidelines and operational need. FTB has a minimum in-office requirement of four days per week for all positions including those that are eligible for telework.

  • Interpret and apply tax laws to the facts and circumstances of audit cases, including cases with complex ownership structures
  • Ability to resolve the most technical questions and issues where little legal precedence exists

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including the most complex legislative or technical tax information in a clear and concise manner

  • Ability to independently plan, prioritize, and organize assignments with tight time frames or competing deadlines
  • Ability to prepare, review, or present technical training and procedure in an engaging and understandable manner
  • Ability to lead statewide programs, practices, and procedural issues to ensure departmental strategic goals, and directives are accomplished
  • Ability to develop and implement legislative changes on highly controversial issues
  • Corporate tax audit experience
  • Knowledge of Profession Audit Support System (PASS), Business Entities Tax System (BETS), Case Management (CM), Taxpayer Folder (TPF), Excel, Word
