Job Description

The City of Beloit has an exciting employment opportunity in the Parks and Recreation Division of the Public Works Department as an Equipment Operator-Forestry.

This position is responsible to perform, as an individual or as member of a team, the provision of grounds maintenance within city parks, green spaces, and/or city-owned property and facilities. Under supervision, the Equipment Operator performs skilled manual labor necessary to develop, maintain, or protect the urban tree canopy through such activities as transporting seedlings; tree trimming/removal, stump removal, combating insects, pests, and diseases harmful to plant life; and building structures to control water, erosion, and leaching of soil.

This position typically works Monday through Thursday from 6:30a.m. to 3:30p.m. and Fridays from 6:30a.m. to 10:30a.m. Schedule is subject to change based on business needs.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. High School Diploma or equivalent

1. A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record

1. Class B Commercial Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within six months of

1. A minimum of one (1) year of responsible work experience, with experience in mowing, grounds maintenance, landscaping, construction, tree pruning and related tree-care activities, including manual and semi-skilled

1. Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.
